Drinking on public transport

So the government is to ban drinking on public transport.
Why do we need to do this? Is it because some people behave badly when they are drunk and upset some small minded people or is it because the government thinks it will show them cracking down on loutish behaviour.
If this sort of crap carries on I for one will not be voting for Labour at the next election. I have voted for them for the last 20 years but I'm getting sick of being told what to do by the state.

Twenty Billion (minimum) to be wasted

The UK is to spend 20 billion to update their Trident Submarine nuclear threat.
What a waste of money.
We should not be spending more money on something we will never use. It had a purpose once but it does not now.
We should set an example to all the other countries who have nuclear weapons and either a) scrap them now or b) keep them but only until they are past their lifetime.
We do not need nuclear weapons.

MMR cleared

MMR has been cleared of causing Autism. Or as I like to call it 'Naughty child syndrome'.

Most children (in my unscientific opinion - but just as valid as any other parent's unscientific opinion about MMR and Autism) are just plain naughty. They have been mollicoddled since infants and so cannot cope with the fact that when introduced to the real world of other people that these people are not equally attentive and fascinated as their parents.

Parent's everywhere need a good slap and their children need to be gagged and ignored until they can behave in public. It does not stiffle their creativity to do this. If it did how and where did all these creative people come from in Victorian times when children were not even seen let alone heard.

Religious Hatred Bill

So the government is still trying to get its Religious Hatred Bill passed. This is the bill where the state has to protect people of a religious bent from us nasty secularists, aethists and all other religions that disagree with all other religions.
Who is going to protect my right to criticise all religions as morally wrong. Apart from some of the self-enlightment religions there is not a religion in the world that is not implicated in mass genocide of people who were not of the correct religion.
Throughout history religion has been used to justify the most atrocious acts.
When will the people of the world grow up and realise that all the benefits of religions, such as cohesion of purpose, brotherly love, helping others can be had without all the stupid religious stuff about a higher being.
There is no god. There never was. God (capitalised only because it is the first word in the sentence) was the creation of people who initially understood little of world and so invented beings to explain the world and its workings. After some time it mutated into a way of maintaining control over a population and justifying the unusual and generally abhorant practices of the people at the top.
How can you trust a person to make sane decisions when they believe that god created the world and at their death they will go to heaven or hell.
If you talked to someone who was equally believing in Aliens you would not trust them as much but this is no difference. There is no god and the 'Absence of proof is no proof of absence' argument is just tosh.

Selling weapons

From the Independent (18/10/2005) Johann Hari's column
The majority of weapons in the world are supplied by the 5 permanent members of the security council - USA, China, France, Russia and Britain.
Arms suppliers in the UK receive 990 million pounds in subsidy.
The UK Ministry of Defence says that only 60,000 jobs are sustained by arms suppliers.
To win a 40 billion pound sale to Saudi Arabia it seems we are to deport 2 saudi disidents.

Failing Countries

All countries should have a licence granted to them by the UN to operate as a country.

Countries that meet certain criteria for failure to operate as a country should have their licence revoked and the UN should step in with professionals to decide what to do.

Criteria for failure should be:
1) Inability to feed own citizens
2) Blatant corruption
3) Civil war
4) Genocide
5) etc

What to do with such countries:
1) If viable as one country then should be administered until the country is properly back on its feet. Administration should be by professionals from a country not directly related to the country. All monies obtained by such officials will have to be explained at the end of their term of office. Inability to explain would result in a long prison sentence. Administrators would be directly responsible for corruption of employees.

2) If not viable as a country then the country should be split up and administered independently. If it can be shown that part of the country can be combined with another working country then this should be done. If it can be combined with another part of another country and that country is failing then both parts should be combined and administered.

Solving Poverty and Debt

If each of the top 1% richest people in the world gave 10% of their wealth for distribution to the poor in Africa and other places then all of the problems would be solved.

This is a pure guess and none are going to do it since they would miss that million plus pounds they would have to give.

Live8 concert

Why was there an enormous semi-circle in front of the stage in Hyde Park ?

Was it so that all celebs and liggers did not have to share their space with the plebs, hoi-polloi and the scum. I think so.

The concert was absymal. None of the stars did it for any other reason than to boost their record sales.
