Changing you mobile number to another provider

I spent 30 minutes today trying to get the PAC code from O2 so that I could transfer my mobile number to GiffGaff.

I did eventually succeed but the wait was excruciating.  Why I hear you ask?  Well, they chose the most awful muzak to play while I was waiting for them to answer the phone.

The best track they played was by Gary Numan/Tubeway Army.  Can't remember which one.

The worst I am still trying to erase from my memory.  Some utter drivel about a dance floor done by the sugarbabes (I think, sounded a bit like them).

Why do they insist on playing such rubbish.  In my case I nearly hung up twice I could not stand what was being played.

Maybe that's what they were hoping would happen.  Make a certain number of people hang up in disgust so they can clear their calls.

When I did get through the man tried to persuade me to not change providers.  I said that GiffGaff were £10 and unlimited data.  He said that he could not do unlimited data for that price.  He then told me I wasn't even using 250Mb a month so I should not need unlimited.  I then told him to tell me the PAC and I said goodbye and hung up.

Why can't you get the PAC from their website?  Is it because they want to talk to you to try and persuade you to stay?  I should think so.
